About the project
Themes such as identity, migration, structural racism, social inequality, longings, resistance and the whole poetry of life have a place in this photography course.
The aim of the course was to encourage and actively support the participants' own photographic work and at the same time to demonstrate the possibilities of the medium of photography with regard to complex social issues.
About my photos
For this series of photos I have turned away from the vertical point of view, yet maintained a human and natural perspective from eye level, as this is the most normal perceived by the viewer.
The higher the viewpoint rises, the lower, shorter and flatter lower lying forms appear.
The resulting images combine mainly architectural buildings, which are arranged chronologically according to their epochs. This creates a brief journey through time from Art Nouveau and Classicism to Eastern Modernism and postmodern architecture.
In this way, a historical panorama of art and culture unfolds in a virtuoso manner.
A special feature is the viewpoint that is constantly directed towards the sky. One and the same sky, under which so many different identities live, but for which one and the same social equality does not prevail. Thus, for some of us, a view of the sky seems neutral and conveys a sense of clarity and confidence and security - everything seems possible and all the poetry of life unfolds. For others, however, the sky seems gloomy and depressing.
The expression of architecture also achieves different impressions in different people, which in turn also embody identities for themselves. Art Nouveau tries to bring nature and the natural into the cities through sweeping elements. With the Eastern architecture, on the other hand, the objectivity returns, which seems almost brutalistic and can be seen as the remnants of a dictatorial state. Modern architecture, on the other hand, appears very transparent through reduced materials, which predominantly include glass, which reflects our digitalized and networked society well.
By means of architectural epochs, the photo series therefore embodies identity themes that are closely linked to social-historical themes.
